Re: Master Classes in Romany (Gypsy) style Doumbek, Clarinet & Frame Drum
Fri, March 23, 2007 - 2:23 AMI live on the West Coast and can't make this. It looks so fascinating.
for what it's worth, if anyone transcribes any of Romany rhythms for Darbukka, Frame Drum
or for what ever they call their Tupan/Davul/Tabla Beledi drum, I'd be willing to
trade transcripts I've made from many different teachers in these tradtiions in the Middleeast.
At one point, Hossam Ramzy and I seriously discussed putting together a very large encylopedia
of Arabic influenced rhythms in both Arabic and English, so i have a lot of transcriptions of rhythms.
His work with Page and Plant took him away from the project but I did a lot of trascribing of rhythms.
I'm always looking for new things to learn in terms of folkloric rhythms that have the influence of the
Ottoman Turks as many of the Romany rhythms have from what I understand.
Have a great workshop. I wish I could attend.
respectfully, Rick Walker
